Welcome to my advocacy, Art is for Everybody

When I first began sharing my art online, I was both surprised and deeply moved by the response. Here in the Philippines, my posts drew hundreds of comments from people who said they were touched by my work. I don’t attribute this to extraordinary talent on my part—it revealed something bigger: that art in this country is often inaccessible.

Too often, art feels locked away—behind gallery walls, shaped by gatekeepers with advanced degrees, or displayed in exclusive shows and bazaars that many people cannot afford. Because of this, many people don’t see themselves as “art collectors” or even as people who deserve to enjoy art. There’s a lingering belief that art is only for the wealthy, when in truth, everyone deserves beauty in their lives.

Art has the power to inspire, to offer a moment of peace, to spark joy, or to stir a cherished memory. It can live in any space, from the humblest home to the grandest hall. And just as importantly, anyone can create art—it doesn’t belong only to professionals or elites.

This is why I’ve made it my mission to carry forward the belief that Art is for Everybody. Through affordable expressive arts workshops, I hope to break down the barriers that keep people away from art. Whether through viewing or creating, everyone deserves the chance to experience the transformation, connection, and joy that art can bring.

Brushstrokes of Hope Program

Brushstrokes of Hope is a community-based expressive arts initiative under the banner of Art Is for Everybody, created in partnership with the City Anti-Drug Abuse Division – Oro Wellness Center. The program, due to launch at the end of 2025, provides vulnerable mothers and plea bargainers with opportunities to heal, grow, and reintegrate into society through the power of creativity.

Each participant will receive a personalized art kit—including soft pastels, brushes, paper, a canvas for a final art project, and a reusable apron printed with donor or sponsor names. These kits ensure that participants not only engage fully during sessions but also continue practicing art at home as a tool for reflection, resilience, and renewal.

Workshops are designed to be inclusive, supportive, and empowering, blending structured creative exercises with space for self-expression. The program uplifts individuals by helping them process trauma, rebuild self-worth, and strengthen family connections, while also reducing stigma around recovery and reintegration.

By equipping participants with creative tools and safe spaces, Brushstrokes of Hope transforms art into a bridge between healing and belonging, benefiting not just individuals but their families and the broader community.
